The Nice - Ars Longa Vita Brevis (1968)

The Nice fue una banda inglesa de rock progresivo, que comenzó a partir de los años 60s como grupo de acompañamiento de P.P. Arnold (P.P. Arnold Band). Las características de esta agrupación son sus mezclas de rock, jazz y música clásica. Su álbum de debut, The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack, fue lanzado en 1967, y al momento logró un gran éxito. A menudo se considera el primer álbum de rock progresivo. The Nice son también un precursor del reconocido Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
El grupo estaba constituido en sus principios por Keith Emerson a los teclados, Lee Jackson con el bajo y en las voces, Brian Davison con la percusión y a la batería, y David O'List (más conocido como "Davy") con la guitarra.

Jaco Pastorius - Invitation (1983)

Jaco Pastorius fue un bajista de funk y jazz fusión, compositor y arreglista dentro del mismo estilo musical.
Pese a ser autodidacta, Pastorius tomó un instrumento hasta entonces relativamente nuevo, el bajo eléctrico, cuyo papel hasta ese momento por lo general era de acompañamiento y permanecía en un segundo plano dentro de las bandas de música popular, y lo llevó a los primeros planos, mostrando que también podía ser un instrumento enormemente expresivo y rico tonalmente, capaz de interpretar la melodía principal o de improvisaciones espectaculares, en aquella época patrimonio exclusivo de los trompetistas, saxofonistas y pianistas.
Pastorius quitó los trastes a su bajo Fender Jazz Bass modelo de 1954, transformándolo en un fretless, hasta el momento poco conocido y utilizado, cuya sonoridad y técnica son más similares a las del contrabajo, más dulce que el bajo eléctrico tradicional, y que junto con la particular posición de la mano derecha utilizada por Jaco conforman ese sonido único que es su marca de fábrica.
